CBD Oil is extracted from the plant Cannabis Sativa. Both hemp and cannabis come from this plant.
Humans have been cultivating hemp for at least 6000yrs. Early Chinese records show that hemp was a primary crop in the Qin and Han dynastis (about 4000 – 5000yrs ago). Records from 1533 also show that King Henry VIII required that for every 60 acres of land, each farmer must set aside 1/4 acre for hemp cultivation. Thomas Jefferson demanded something similar in colonial America.
The main reason for this was the use of hemp for ropes on ships, and paper.
Aside from the industrial use, Cannabis Sativa was also being studied for it’s medical effects as early 1563. A Portuguese physician Garcia da Orta observed that “Those of my servants who took it … said that it made them so as not to feel work, to be very happy, and to have a craving for food”. At around the same time, Li Shizhen, a Chinese doctor, also noted the anti-nausea effects of cannabis.
There is even a story of Queen Victoria smoking cannabis to ease her menstrual cramps. Not sure how true this is, but I like to think it’s fact!
This brings us to much more recent history and the discovery of CBD oil. The CBD compound was first isolated by Roger Adams, and American chemist, in 1940. Unfortunately, he was unable to determine what he had isolated, and it wasn’t until Raphael Mechoulam, an Israeli organic chemist, came along in the 1960s that CBD was finally isolated and described, allowing chemists to confirm that CBD was a non-psychoactive constituent of cannabis. This paved the way for CBD to be viewed as a medicine, leading to British Pharmacopoeia in 1970 referring to CBD tinctures for medical use.
When Charlotte Figi, a young American girl, was treated with CBD to help manage her rare seizure disorder, CBD became widely publicised in America.
This brings us to 2017 when the FDA started looking to approve CBD for medical use. Today, CBD is legal in all 50 States in the USA.

Pain Relief in Darwin
One of the most immediate effects of CBD is it’s use as a analgesic, or pain relieving drug. The effects of CBD on chronic pain are almost immediate and does need to be taken intravenously for this to work. Scientists aren’t 100% sure how this effect works, but it’s thought that the CBD interacts with the receptors in the brain and immune system to alleviate pain and reduce inflammation.
There are a lot of people who can’t take certain pain medication because it makes them sick. There’s also the addictive risk of pain medication, as well the potential damage it can do to your body over long-term use.
CBD has been used extensively on mice and rats to prove the significant reduction in inflammation, and is today legal in all 50 States.
Do you remember Charlotte Figi, the 6 year old who has Dravet Syndrome, a rare, severe form of epilepsy? At only 3 months old Charlotte suffered her first seizure, and it lasted a horrifying 30minutes long. By age 3 she was wheelchair bound and had stopped talking and couldn’t eat. By age 5, this poor child was suffering from up to 300 seizures a week, leaving her so weak that her heart even stopped a few times. It got so bad that doctors eventually decided to put her in a medically induced coma to give her body a break to recover.
There seemed to be nothing that could help Charlotte live a normal life. That’s when her parents decided to try CBD. The results were almost immediate! She went from nearly 300 seizures a week to NONE in the first week of her trying it! Charlotte’s story is an incredible one, and there is much more to her story and the story of the Stanley Brothers, the medical marijuana growers helping her.
If you or someone you know suffers from seizure, please, please read Charlottes story, and look into how CBD effects the CB1 and CB2 receptors.
Reduces The Risk of Diabetes
One of the amazing benefits of CBD oil on the body is it’s ability to reduce your risk of diabetes quite significantly.
A study published in Neuropharmacology, researchers show how only 32 percent of female mice that recieved CBD were diagnosed with diabetes, compared to 100 percent of female mice that were untreated. This is quite conclusive research and I really look forward to seeing the results on humans.
This sounds like a fairytale drug, but it’s true, cannabis can help fight cancer.
CBD and other compounds in cannabis have been found to have an anti-tumour effect and can act as a catalyst and amplify the tumour cell death in both colon cancer and leukaemia. CBD Oil has also been shown to stop the spread of cancer cells in cervical cancer.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of these cancer studies are still pre-clinical, so it’s best to take these findings with a grain of salt for the time being. That said, the future of CBD, and it’s role as a cancer fighting drug, looks good.
Sleep And Appetite
This probably comes as no surprise to anyone who has smoke cannabis themselves, or have seen someone onscreen smoking it. While the effects in movies is highly exaggerated, there is plenty of truth in the fact that cannabis will help you get a good nights sleep and increase your appetite.
Almost everyone suffers from anxiety from time-to-time, but there are people who almost constantly live with this monster on their shoulder. There are plenty of drugs on the market to help fight anxiety, but they all have some form of side-effect, or can potentially damage your kidneys over time.
CBD oil works almost immediately at preventing and stopping anxiety, and there are no ill side-effects. It is cheap and easy to use. You can use a vaporiser, skin cream, capsules, or a drip or under the tongue.
The University of São Paulo found that CBD significantly reduces subjective anxiety, leading investigators to conclude that “These results suggest that CBD Oil reduces anxiety in [social anxiety disorder] and that this is related to its effects on activity in limbic and paralimbic brain areas.”
There are many more benefits, both physically and mentally, to using CBD products. Do your research and try CBD to see if it can help you today! If you have any thing to add please contact us.
